Top-seeded Middleton (39-0) capped an undefeated season to claim the boys’ championship at the 2025 State Volleyball Tournament with a 26-24, 25-19, 25-21 victory over second-seeded Germantown (40-6) in the title game at the Resch Center Saturday.

After a tightly contested win in the first set, the Cardinals took control of the game with an efficient hitting attack in the second set. They recorded a scorching .419 hitting percentage to take a commanding two-set lead. 

The Cardinals finished with a .304 hitting percentage for the game. Caden Van Buren led the Cardinals’ offensive arsenal with a game-high 20 kills and a .459 hitting percentage. Vance Ferry contributed with eight kills to contribute to a .389 attack percentage for game. Bryce Stuttgen dished out assists on 30 of the team’s 40 kills in the match to lead all setters, and Ferry delivered game-high two aces. Jude Gehrke and Will Hoffman led the Cardinals on defense with 14 digs and six blocks, respectively.

The Warhawks were held to a .215 attack percentage in the game, including a .043 percentage in the deciding third set. Parker Van Engen was the leading attacker with 10 kills, and Greyson Becker chipped in with nine kills. Alex Rogowski handed out a team-leading 26 assists, while Oliver Kelley paced the team on defense with 13 digs.

Middleton won its second championship in the past three seasons, which also accounts for its overall total in 16 State Tournament appearances. The Cardinals advanced to the final after wins over Kenosha Indian Trail in the quarterfinals by scores of 25-19, 25-21, 25-14 and Catholic Memorial in the semifinals 25-16, 25-25, 26-28, 25-22.

Germantown placed runner-up in its ninth State experience. The Warhawks downed Brookfield Central 25-17, 25-16, 31-29 in the quarterfinals and Marquette in the semifinals 25-23, 25-23, 25-22. 

The 2025 State Volleyball Tournament resumes Saturday with five girls’ tournament finals, beginning with Division 5 at 9 a.m. at the Resch Center.
