HOME TEAMS TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS

Last year, lower-seeded road teams won 15 of the 28 games in the sectional finals. In 2025, the script was flipped, with higher-seeded home teams largely taking care of business, going 21-7 overall. Still, there were a lot of very competitive games, with half of the games decided by two touchdowns or less, seven of those by a single score.

CINDERELLA KEEPS DANCING

Of the lower-seeded teams that were able to score wins in Level 3, several of them did so in convincing fashion. Defending Division 1 state champion Bay Port hammered previously undefeated Franklin 42-13. Three-time defending state champion Stratford posted a 29-0 shutout of Tomahawk to continue on in Division 5. In a battle of unbeatens, Northwestern was a 44-16 winner over last year’s D6 runner-up Grantsburg.

The biggest Cindrella still going is Division 3, eighth-seeded Whitefish Bay, who scored a third consecutive road victory in a 28-7 victory over third-seeded Martin Luther. The Blue Dukes become just the third eight-seed to advance to the state semi-finals, joining Freedom in 2012 and Belleville in 2024, though none of the previous instances resulted in state finals trips.
