Bound Wisconsin Week 3 Football Preview

Arrowhead (2-0; D1 #1) at Catholic Memorial (2-0; D3 #1) - A titanic tilt of top-ranked teams, as Catholic Memorial takes on Arrowhead for the first time since 2019 when they competed together in the Classic Eight Conference. CMH is in the Greater Metro now, and this is a crossover game. Catholic Memorial didn’t really challenge themselves in the non-conference, with dominating wins over Milwaukee Bradley Tech and Sun Prairie West,

Wauwatosa East (2-0; UR) at New Berlin Eisenhower (2-0; D3 #8) - Tosa East is 2-0 to begin the year, having dominated a pair of Milwaukee City Conference teams. New Berlin Eisenhower will be a much stiffer challenge, as the Lions have solid wins over Edgewood and Whitnall to this point and cracked the top ten of the last Coaches Poll.

Cedar Grove-Belgium (1-1; UR) at Manitowoc Lutheran (2-0; D6 #6) - Cedar Grove-Belgium dropped a shutout game to Mayville in Week 1, but responded in a big way against a second straight defending champion, beating Kenosha St. Joseph 21-6 last week. Manitowoc Lutheran is looking very good once again, with wins over Roncalli and Brillion. This is a big early game in the Big East.

New Glarus (2-0; D5 #8) at Cuba City (2-0; D6 #7) - New Glarus moves into the SWAL this year, and gets a challenge right out of the gates in a showdown of ranked teams. The Glarner Knights have posted close wins over Cambridge and Belleville already. Cuba City has played a couple tight ballgames as well, beating Potosi/Cassville by a touchdown and Lancaster by 11 points.

Mineral Point (2-0; D6 #10) at Darlington (2-0; D5 #1) - Darlington has been one of the most impressive teams in the state this year, with 35-0 running clock wins over Saint Mary’s Springs and Illinois’ 1A state champion Lena-Winslow. This will be the 126th meeting between these old rivals, as Darlington leads 93-27-5.

Fall River/Rio (1-1; UR) at Randolph/Cambria-Friesland (2-0; UR) - The new co-op at Randolph/Cambria-Friesland has looked very good so far, and this new co-op battle will play for a new traveling trophy designed by the four participating schools, of a championship wrestling style belt.

Lakeside Lutheran (1-1; UR) at Lake Mills (1-1; D4 #10) - The Slider Bowl features teams separated by just 0.6 miles, one of the closest matchups in the entire state. Lake Mills looked much better in a big Week 2 win over McFarland, when they scored 66 points, than they did in a Week 1 shutout against Freedom. Which offense will show up today?

Columbus (0-2; UR) at Lodi (1-1; UR) - Columbus is off to a rough 0-2 start, and things don’t get easier this week against a Lodi squad that has been a frequent competitor in the Capitol Conference race.

Sauk Prairie (1-1; UR) at McFarland (1-1; UR) - Sauk Prairie was one of the co-champs of the Badger-Small last year, while McFarland moves into the league after previously competing in the Rock Valley. The Spartans allowed 66 points in a loss to Lake Mills last week and will be coming in ready to rebound.

Edgewood (1-1; UR) at Mount Horeb/Barneveld (1-1; D3 #6) - The other two Badger-Small co-champs meet up in this one, as last season Edgewood downed MHB in Week 8. Both teams replaced highly productive quarterbacks from last year with guys who have done well so far, Jack Lovell for Edgewood and Harvey Hellen for Mount Horeb/Barneveld.

Lancaster (0-2; UR) at Platteville (1-1; UR) - This old Grant Count rivalry heats up again as the SWC opener for both schools, marking the 98th meeting going back to 1902, with Platteville leading 50-45-2.

Potosi/Cassville (1-1; UR) at River Ridge (2-0; UR) - River Ridge has a couple high-scoring wins so far, while Potosi/Cassville is 1-1 coming into this key Six Rivers Conference showdown, losing a tough one to Cuba City back in Week 1.

Waunakee (1-1; D1 #6) at Sun Prairie East (1-1; UR) - Both teams went down in Week 1 but rebounded with strong showings last week. After a loss to Muksego to open the year, Waunakee took down Franklin. West De Pere knocked off Sun Prairie East in Week 1 before the Cardinals bounced back with a dominating win over Racine Horlick last week. Waunakee has dominated this matchup since moving to the Badger-North, winning all four previous games.

Muskego (2-0; D1 #3) at Brookfield Central (2-0; D2 #7) - This Classic Eight-Greater Metro showdown is a matchup of top ten teams, with Muskego expected to be in this position, while Brookfield Central has looked very good early on, albeit against a schedule that hasn’t fully tested them yet.

Oconomowoc (2-0; D1 #7) at Hamilton (2-0; D1 #5) - Hamilton has looked very good in impressive early victories over Kimberly and Racine Case. While it wasn’t a surprise that Oconomowoc got past Milton with no trouble to open the season, the Raccoons definitely opened some eyes with a two-score win over Verona last week, as it vaulted the team into the top ten of the coaches poll this week.

Mukwonago (1-1; D1 #10) at Brookfield East (1-1; UR) - This is the first game for Brookfield East against a Wisconsin team (they lost to Glenbard North, IL in Week 1 and received a forfeit against Racine Park last week), so we aren’t quite sure what to expect out of the Spartans still. After a close loss to Appleton North in Week 1, Mukwonago rebounded with a nice win at Badger last week, as they are playing their third consecutive road game to begin the year.

Franklin (0-2; UR) at Germantown (1-1; UR) - Yet another standout Classic Eight versus Greater Metro crossover game here in Week 3, though it is certainly surprising to see Franklin at 0-2 thus far. The size and strength of Germantown’s offensive front is impressive, but Franklin is usually pretty stout in the trenches themselves.

Kenosha Indian Trail (2-0; UR) at Kenosha Bradford (1-1; UR) - Bradford was riding high after taking down Badger in Week 1, but came back to earth a bit after a narrow loss to Marquette last week that ended with the Red Devils unable to convert a late two-point conversion to win the game. Kenosha Indian Trail was on the other end of a one-point contest last week, squeaking past Middleton.

Union Grove (2-0; UR) at Elkhorn (2-0; UR) - Both teams have looked impressive in the early going, with Union Grove riding the arm and leg of senior quarterback Quinn Schultz to wins over Whitefish Bay and Kettle Moraine. Elkhorn’s Wing-T offense can be tough to deal with, and last season these teams played a doozy, with Union Grove winning 34-33.

Wisconsin Lutheran (1-1; UR) at Whitefish Bay (1-1; D3 #9) - Wisconsin Lutheran showed a lot of potential in a Week 1 win over Waterford, but a shocking 21-9 defeat to a Westosha Central team that hadn’t won a game in two years befell the Vikings last week, as they played without quarterback Cooper Sievert, who had a big game to open the year. So which team are they? They’ll need to be the Week 1 type against a Whitefish Bay team smarting after going down to Union Grove last week.

Milwaukee Riverside/Golda Meir (1-1; UR) at Milwaukee Reagan (1-1; UR) - The only Milwaukee City Conference teams that really tested themselves in non-conference play, Riverside/Golda Meir definitely showed they could be a contender to push Reagan with a win over West Allis Hale last week. Reagan went down to Milwaukee King, who is technically in the Southeast Conference, and New Berlin Eisenhower in non-conference play.

West De Pere (2-0; D1 #4) at De Pere (2-0; D1 #8) - The battle of De Pere is a big one, with both teams entering 2-0. West De Pere has a high-powered passing attack led by a Greisen (Andrew this year) once again, looking hard to stop through the air. De Pere is trying to break into the upper echelon of the league after being behind Bay Port and West De Pere.

Pulaski (2-0; UR) at Bay Port (2-0; D1 #2) - Pulaski has been searching for a signature FRCC-North Conference win for a few years, and has a chance to get one early on. Both teams enter at 2-0, but it was Bay Port that scored a 42-0 win in the final regular season game last season.

Kewaunee (1-1; UR) at Bonduel (2-0; D6 #3) - These teams met up twice last year, with Kewaunee winning the regular season game en route to the Packerland Conference title, as Bonduel was second. However, the Bears got revenge in Level 2 of the playoffs as Bonduel got a 37-36 win.

Kettle Moraine Lutheran (2-0; UR) at Plymouth (2-0; D3 #5) - Both teams are 2-0 heading into conference play, both trying to get off to a good start in the new Glacier Trails Conference. Plymouth won 41-0 in this one last year.

Wrightstown (1-1; UR) at Little Chute (2-0; D4 #2) - Little Chute defeated Wrightstown 15-13 in what proved to be its closest conference game of the year, as they’d go unbeaten in the North Eastern last season. It was close despite Little Chute out-gaining Wrightstown nearly two-to-one.

Green Bay West (2-0; UR) at Green Bay East (0-2; UR) - Green Bay West is off to a 2-0 start, making the playoffs a realistic goal for the first time in 30 years. However, they’ve played smaller, weaker competition to this point. Still, a win over rival Green Bay East would move them to 3-0. This is the longest-running rivalry in Wisconsin high school football, dating back to the first game in 1905 they have played every season, with East holding a 64-53-3 lead in the series.

Sheboygan North (1-1; UR) at Sheboygan South (0-2; UR) - This crosstown rivalry has been played every year since 1938, with South holding a 44-41-3 advantage in 88 previous meetings.

Northwestern (2-0; D4 #6) at Saint Croix Falls (2-0; D5 #7) - These teams have not only battled for control of the Heart O’North Conference the last few years, but have also met in the postseason for three consecutive seasons as well. Last season, Northwestern won both meetings en route to a league title and trip to the Division 5 state title game.

Boyceville (2-0; D7 #2) at Glenwood City (2-0; D7 #6) - Both teams are off to hot starts to the season, beginning the year 2-0. Boyceville has been able to successfully replace a strong senior class that included Carson Roemhild and Zach Hellendrung.

Rice Lake (0-2; UR) at Hudson (2-0; D1 #9) - Rice Lake has struggled in the early going here, losing to Marshfield and Wausau West. Meanwhile, Hudson has taken care of business in a couple expected dominating victories. Rice Lake won 22-20 over Hudson in the regular season finale to secure a share of the league crown, relegating Hudson to third.

Menomonie (0-2; UR) at Chippewa Falls (2-0; UR) - Menomonie has struggled out of the gates with losses to Wausau West and D.C. Everest in non-league play. Chippewa Falls has been impressive in blowout victories. This will be the 115th meeting between the schools dating back to 1895, as Menomonie leads 62-49-3.

Holmen (2-0; D2 #8) at Onalaska (1-1; UR) - Holmen has pulled off a pair of one-score victories in the non-conference schedule, as senior quarterback Bennett Schild leads the team in passing and rushing. Onalaska rebounded from an opening shutout loss to West Salem with a 20-0 win over Medford last week.

Reedsburg (2-0; D3 #3) at La Crosse Central (2-0; UR) - La Crosse Central rallied in the fourth quarter against Reedsburg last year to win 35-28, as the Riverhawks would go on to share the Mississippi Valley Conference title. Central is 2-0 coming into this one, cruising to wins over Merrill and Ellsworth. Reedsburg snuck by New Berlin West in Week 1 then won a bit more comfortably against DeForest last week.

Aquinas (2-0; D4 #3) at West Salem (2-0; D4 #5) - These teams have dominated the Coulee Conference the last few years, and it is likely that this one will decide who wins the crown this season as well. West Salem has won its games a bit more comfortably than has Aquinas, but Aquinas did win 20-13 in last year’s meeting to capture the league crown.
