Bound Wisconsin Week 4 Football Preview

Whitefish Bay (2-1, 1-0; D3 #8) at Menomonee Falls (3-0, 1-0; D2 #6) - The revamped North Shore Conference produces some really interesting matchups, including this one. Menomonee Falls is one of the biggest surprises so far, though their schedule hasn’t quite turned out as tough as we thought it was to this point. Whitefish Bay rebounded from a loss against Union Grove by taking down Wisconsin Lutheran last week.

Appleton North (2-1, 1-0; D1 #9) at Fond du Lac (2-1, 1-0; UR) - Fond du Lac has struggled to get a signature win the last few years, but has a chance this week as the conference schedule is very tough coming up. Appleton North’s defense will be a challenge for Fondy, who does average nearly 300 rushing yards per game.

New Holstein (3-0, 1-0; D5 #10) at Brillion (2-1, 1-0; UR) - New Holstein is off to a strong start to the 2026 season, and has established themselves as a favorite in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference. Last week they beat Roncalli, one of the co-champions last year. This week, they face off against the other co-champion from last season, Brillion. The Lions rebounded from a non-conference loss against Manitowoc Lutheran two weeks ago with a convincing win over Valders.

Mount Horeb/Barneveld (1-2, 1-0; UR) at Beaver Dam (2-1, 1-0; UR) - Mount Horeb/Barneveld opened the year on a high note with a win over defending Division 3 state champion Grafton. However, the Vikings have dropped back-to-back games against Port Washington and Edgewood, and may need to win out to have a chance at the Badger-Small Conference title.

Lake Mills (2-1, 1-0; D4 #8) at Columbus (0-3, 0-1; UR) - Lake Mills rebounded from that 40-0 shutout to Freedom in the season opener with solid wins against McFarland and Lakeside Lutheran this week. Columbus has played a very challenging schedule to this point, but it is nonetheless a surprise to see the Cardinals still searching for their first win of the year, with no gimmes anywhere to be found.

Darlington (3-0, 1-0; D5 #1) at New Glarus (3-0, 1-0; D5 #7) - Darlington has played one of the toughest schedules in the state amongst any small school, and looked very good in getting out to a 3-0 start. The defending Division 6 state champions have another tough one this week as they take on a New Glarus team that has won back-to-back games over ranked opponents and nudged their way up to seventh in D5 this week.

Evansville (3-0, 1-0; D4 #6) at Portage (3-0, 1-0; D3 #9) - Portage was team number 33 in Division 4 last year, but unfortunately for the Warriors, only 32 qualify for the playoffs. They’re trying to make sure they don’t end up on the bubble this year, off to a 3-0 start with some solid wins under their belt. Evansville is 3-0 as well, ranked in the top ten of Division 4.

Catholic Memorial (2-1, 0-1; D3 #1) at Muskego (3-0, 1-0; D1 #3) - After getting ground down by Arrowhead in the second half last week, Catholic Memorial will take on the ultimate ground and pound team, Muskego. The Warriors average more than 300 rushing yards per game in their Wing-T offense, and will be a challenge for the CMH front, who has several two-way players compared to the platoon system of Muskego. Catholic Memorial has athletes that can do damage, but couldn’t get them going in the second half last week.

Brookfield East (2-1, 1-0; UR) at Arrowhead (3-0, 1-0; D1 #1) - Brookfield East finally played a Wisconsin team for the first time in Week 3, beating Mukwonago 35-14 in impressive fashion. Waiting this week is top-ranked Arrowhead, who ground out a 34-14 win over Catholic Memorial last week without throwing a pass in the second half.

Brookfield Central (2-1, 0-1; UR) at Oconomowoc (2-1, 0-1; D1 #8) - Both teams looked good in the non-conference schedule but suffered losses against very good teams last week, Brookfield Central a 53-0 hammering by Muskego and Oconomowoc a much closer 35-27 loss to Hamilton.

Westosha Central (2-1, 1-0; UR) at Elkhorn (2-1, 0-1; UR) - Westosha Central had lost 14 straight games prior to Week 2 of the season, but the Falcons have shocked everyone outside the program with back-to-back wins over Wisconsin Lutheran and Badger. Elkhorn looked very good in the non-conference and played Union Grove very tough last year, and will look to run their Wing-T offense at a high level, as they average just shy of 350 rushing yards per game.

Germantown (1-2, 1-0; UR) at Mukwonago (1-2, 1-0; UR) - Both these teams were in our preseason Division 1 rankings, but the loser here will fall to 1-3 and face an uphill battle to get the requisite wins and Matrix points to qualify for the playoffs.

Burlington (3-0, 1-0; UR) at Union Grove (3-0, 1-0; D2 #4) - Union Grove has been one of the more impressive teams in the early going this year, with wins over Kettle Moraine, Whitefish Bay, and Elkhorn. Burlington is also undefeated, though their schedule certainly hasn’t been as challenging.

Pewaukee (3-0, 1-0; D3 #2) at Wauwatosa East (3-0, 1-0; UR) - Pewaukee had its closed game of the year last week, beating Wauwatosa West 27-14. The Pirates head on the road for the first time this season to take on a Tosa East team who proved some things last week with a 34-27 win over New Berlin Eisenhower after a couple dominating wins over MPS teams in non-conference play.

Appleton West (3-0, 1-0; UR) at De Pere (2-1, 0-1; D1 #10) - Appleton West is off to a 3-0 start after several years of struggles, though the schedule for the Terrors has been very weak to this point. This is a good measuring stick game, as they’ll take on a De Pere team that hung in the D1 Coaches Poll after going down to West De Pere last week.

Ashwaubenon (3-0, 1-0; UR) at West De Pere (3-0, 1-0; D1 #5) - West De Pere has gotten through a brutally tough schedule unscathed to this point, while Ashwaubenon is 3-0 against a schedule that has not provided the same level of competition. Can the Jaguars be the first team to find a way to slow down Andrew Greisen and the Phantoms’ passing attack?

Denmark (3-0, 1-0; D4 #10) at Freedom (3-0, 1-0; D4 #1) - Freedom sitting at 3-0 isn’t necessarily surprising as the Irish have been one of the more consistent D4 teams for quite some time. Denmark, on the other hand, is off to a bit of a surprising start, sitting at 3-0 after missing the playoffs last year.

Saint Mary’s Springs (2-1, 1-0; UR) at Lomira (3-0, 1-0; D6 #3) - After a running clock loss to Darlington to open the season, Saint Mary’s Springs has gotten back on track the last couple weeks and is starting to look more like the contender in the Flyway we thought they could be. It’s a big one this week, as they travel to Lomira, who won over Campbellsport last week in a game that was ended with more than four minutes remaining after a serious leg injury to a Lomira player.

Spencer/Columbus Catholic (2-1, 0-1; UR) at Weyauwega-Fremont (3-0, 1-0; D6 #7) - Weyauwega-Fremont is 3-0 and into the Division 6 Coaches Poll this week. They’ll take on a Spencer/Columbus Catholic squad that is expected to get 1700-yard rusher Jackson Hoeper back from injury for the first time this season. The co-op program went 2-1 in his absence, going down to Stratford last week.

Chippewa Falls (3-0, 1-0; UR) at New Richmond (3-0, 1-0; D2 #5) - Chippewa Falls is 3-0 with a trio of dominating wins on their schedule, as they’re second in the state with 1,330 rushing yards on the year. Three players average at least 90 yards per game. Another powerful rushing attack is waiting on the other side, though New Richmond relies more on one player, senior Austyn Wittek, who is averaging more than 15 yards per carry and has 500 rushing yards and is also the team’s leader in receiving yards.

West Salem (3-0, 1-0; D4 #3) at Arcadia (3-0, 1-0; UR) - Fittingly, Arcadia will host First Responder’s Night on the 25th anniversary of 9/11. It will be a big atmosphere, with unbeaten and third-ranked West Salem coming to town, hot off a 35-6 running clock win over Aquinas.

Elk Mound (3-0, 1-0; UR) at Regis (3-0, 1-0; D6 #2) - Regis has done what we’d expect, though a narrow 24-22 win over Altoona in Week 2 nearly derailed them. Elk Mound hasn’t had that tough game yet, winning all three contests by at least 29 points. Are they ready to push into contention in the Cloverbelt Conference dominated by Regis and Mondovi the last few years?

Melrose-Mindoro (3-0, 1-0; D7 #7) at Pepin/Alma (3-0, 1-0; D7 #3) - Both teams are 3-0 to start the season, posting some dominant victories. How much have they changed since last year, when Pepin/Alma beat Melrose-Mindoro 41-0.
