Level 1 Surprise
Time is a flat circle: Last year, Belleville played a tough schedule that prepared them well but dropped some very tight games to finish below .500 on the field, going on to beat an undefeated Eastern Suburban Conference team in L1 (Cambridge). This year, Belleville played a tough schedule that prepared them well but dropped some very tight games to finish below .500 on the field, going on to beat an undefeated Eastern Suburban Conference team in L1 (Markesan). We’ll see if the Wildcats can replicate last year’s state semi-final run.
Best Rematch
Kewaunee won the Packerland Conference title, with a 14-7 win over Bonduel back in Week 4 helping the Storm to secure the crown. Those teams will meet again this week in Kewaunee. In the first matchup, Brett Paulsen had a nice game with 110 passing yards and 99 rushing yards, including two scores on the ground to account for both Storm touchdowns.
#1 seed with toughest match-up
Edgar is the top seed and hadn’t allowed a point in the final five games of the year. But the Wildcats found themselves in quite the predicament on Friday when eighth-seeded Loyal/Greenwood scored late with a chance to go ahead but the two-point conversion was no good. With the game tied at 14, Edgar would get the ball with less than a minute left to score for a 21-14 nail-biter that was way closer than anyone anticipated. Now, the two-time defending champions (D7) welcome in a Poynette team that defeated Howards Grove 53-16 last week. Was last week an anomaly for Edgar, or a sign of issues that could derail their quest for a third consecutive title.
Level 2 Most Important Player
Weyauwega-Fremont played a tough schedule in the CWC-Large and even beat South Central Conference champion Berlin in a non-conference game. Junior quarterback Carter Birdyshaw is the engine that drives the Warhawks’ offense. he’s thrown for 1,088 yards and 13 touchdowns with a team-high 658 yards and six touchdowns as well, also playing on defense and special teams. When he’s played well, Weyauwega-Fremont has generally done well. He’s struggled in the team’s losses, however.
My Picks
(14-2 last week; 87.5% in D6 overall)

Bonduel over Kewaunee
Darlington over Fennimore
Belleville over Crandon
Manitowoc Lutheran over Weyauwega-Fremont
Saint Mary’s Springs over Cedar Grove-Belgium
