Level 1 Surprise
It’s not uncommon for five-seeds to defeat four-seeds, as those games can often be toss-ups. However, it isn’t very common that all four of the fifth-seeded teams score road wins over the four-seeds. That’s exactly what happened in Division 7 this year, however, as Glenwood City beat Spring Valley, Eleva-Strum downed Blair-Taylor, Cashton defeated Brookwood, and Crivitz knocked off Reedsville.
Best Rematch
Amazingly, while there were several rematches in Level 1, there are no regular season rematches in Level 2 this week. Of note, Boyceville and Pepin/Alma meet up in Level 2 for a second straight season in the 2/3 matchup in Boyceville. Boyceville scored an 18-7 victory over the Eagles in that game last season.
#1 seed with toughest match-up
Black Hawk/Warren scored a narrow 8-6 win over eighth-seeded River Ridge in the opening playoff game, and the top-seeded Warriors now welcome in a Cashton team that finished the regular season 6-3 but all three defeats came by 13 points or less. The Eagles have already avenged one of those in a 17-0 victory against Brookwood last week.
Level 2 Most Important Player
Kolton Peters does it all for third-seeded Coleman, who travels to second-seeded Roncalli this week. He leads the team in both rushing (1,182 yards) and receiving (308 yards) and is among the the state leaders with seven interceptions. He also had nearly 400 return yards and is a home run threat on special teams.
My Picks
(14-2 last week; 87.5% in D7 overall)
Cochrane-Fountain City over Glenwood City
Boyceville over Pepin/Alma
Lourdes Academy over Eleva-Strum
Hilbert over Wauzeka-Steuben/Seneca
Black Hawk/Warren over Cashton
Potosi/Cassville over Johnson Creek
Kenosha St. Joseph over Crivitz
Roncalli over Coleman
