Six Rivers 2026 Football Preview

Over the next several weeks, we’ll be previewing every conference in the state as part of our preseason preparations.

2025 Recap: Black Hawk/Warren won an outright Six Rivers Conference title in 2025, finishing the regular season unbeaten. However, they’d get upset in Level 2 of the playoffs by Cashton. Potosi/Cassville was second, advancing to the state semifinals. Wauzeka-Steuben/Seneca was third and made it to Level 2, while River Ridge also qualified for the postseason.

Players to Watch:

Bevyn Dennis, RB, Riverdale: Dennis led Riverdale in rushing and receiving last year and also threw for 174 yards, earning Second Team All-Conference recognition.

Cole Dunlavey, OL/DL, Black Hawk/Warren: Dunlavey took home First Team All-Conference recognition on both sides of the ball last year.

Landon Friesen, WR/DB, Iowa-Grant: Friesen hauled in 47 passes for 900 yards and 12 touchdowns to earn First Team All-Conference on both offense and defense.

Brock Hinderman, QB, Iowa-Grant: Hinderman was the league’s First Team All-Conference quarterback, leading the conference with 2,129 passing yards and 26 touchdowns.

Aiden Mosley, OL/DL, Black Hawk/Warren: Mosley joins teammate Cole Dunlavey as a two-way First Team All-Conference selection.

Beau Podnar, QB, Black Hawk/Warren: Podnar was a Second Team All-Conference pick last year after throwing for more than 600 yards with nine touchdowns, adding 804 yards and 14 scores on the ground.

River Sahr, RB/LB, Potosi/Cassville: Sahr rushed for 1,607 yards and 27 touchdowns last year and was a First Team All-Conference pick on both offense and defense.

Hunter White, RB/LB, Potosi/Cassville: White joined with Sahr as a dynamic running back, going for 1,724 yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground.

2026 Team Previews

1) Potosi/Cassville put together another excellent season, going undefeated until a tough loss to Black Hawk/Warren in the last regular season game, then advancing to the D7 state semi-finals before falling to eventual champion Kenosha St. Joseph. The team moves up to Division 6 due to the WIAA Tournament Performance Factor. “We will have an exceptional amount of team speed and athleticism this season,” said head coach Mark Siegert, who reached the 200-win mark last season. There are 14 seniors returning, including the running back duo of Hunter White and River Sahr, who combined for more than 3300 yards on the ground, as well as quarterback Aaron Edge.

2) Black Hawk/Warren (IL) went unbeaten during the regular season, including a 15-14 win over rival Potosi/Cassville in the final game to capture an outright Six Rivers Conference title. After narrowly getting past River Ridge a second time to open the playoffs, the team would be upset at home against Cashton in Level 2. Black Hawk/Warren (IL) figures to battle it out with Potosi/Cassville once again for the top spot in the Six Rivers, with a solid group returning. That includes talented senior quarterback Beau Podnar, as well as promising junior running back Dax Paquin, amongst others. First Team All-Conference offensive linemen Cole Dunlavey and Aiden Mosley also return for head coach Desie Breadon.

3) River Ridge was so close to being better than 4-6 overall last year, as all six of the defeats came by nine or fewer points, with five of them by a single score. “Ae we hungry enough to prevent last season’s tight losses and disappointing overall record from happening again,” asked veteran head coach Wade Winkers. “We were a good team last year but were unable to win a lot of tight games. Does this team realize their ability and the work and focus it will take to turn those situations around? If they don’t we may have a similar season, but if they do, we could make some waves in the Six Rivers and Division 7.” Five starters are back in the flexbone offense, though they’ll need to replace three-year starting quarterback Brandon Davis, who led in passing and rushing. Six starters are back on the defensive side of the ball.

4) Iowa-Grant went 5-4 last year, including wins in the final three games of the season. However, in a strong Division 6 group, the Panthers finished just outside the playoffs. With the bulk of last year’s roster returning, the group is hungry to improve upon last season. “Most of our team has been in just about any position you can imagine on the field,” said head coach Hayden Link. “We have players who are ready to take the next steps our program needs to take in order to sustain long-term success, and build their own legacies.” Iowa-Grant brings back 10 starters on offense and 10 on defense, with 18 returning letterwinners. That includes prolific quarterback Brock Hinderman, who threw for more than 2100 yards, as well as 900-yard receiver Landon Friesen.

5) Riverdale scored a couple late season victories, but would finish just 2-7 overall on the season. Head coach Jeff Johnson heads into his second season at the helm with an experienced roster back, including 15 letterwinners to go with seven starters on offense and eight on defense. Leading rusher and receiver Bevyn Dennis is back, along with quarterback Owen Blankenship. Eli Campbell and Landon Kinyon are other key returning players for the Chieftains.

6) Wauzeka-Steuben/Seneca had an outstanding 2025 season. Despite a couple close losses to Black Hawk/Warren and Potosi/Cassville, they’d finish 7-2 overall during the regular season, then win a playoff game over Ithaca before going out in Level 2. “I am very optimistic about the upcoming season,” said head coach Derrick Joy. “We have a talented and hardworking group of players coming through the program, and they are eager to compete. If our young players continue to develop and gain confidence, we believe we have the potential to have a successful season.” There is quite a bit of roster turnover, as just two starters return on offense, and none of the skill position players. Two starters are back on defense as well. Cole Swiggum, Joshua Martin, and Gavin Wilkins are among up-and-coming players to keep an eye on.

7) Pecatonica/Argyle won just one game last year, a 50-28 victory over Boscobel, as they struggled to be competitive the rest of the season. The Vikings were shutout six times, which is quite the difference from the 50-point game. Preston Knutson takes over for Mark Stateler as the head coach this season. Quarterback Martin Anderson and leading receiver Brock Erickson are among the returning players.

8) Boscobel continued to struggle, going winless on the 2025 campaign. The Bulldogs were shutout five times and scored more than seven points just once. “The players are eager to show that they can play football in this town and do something that nobody has ever done, win and win now,” said head coach Marc Chiefari. The Bulldogs have consistency in the coaching staff, which will be a positive. There are 25 letterwinners coming back, with four starters on offense and five on defense.
