Week 2 Bound Wisconsin Football Coaches Poll

It is time to take a look at this week’s Bound Wisconsin Football Coaches Poll. Division assignment this year is based on official WIAA assignments released prior to the start of the season. It was a bad week to be ranked in the bottom half of the Division 1 Coaches Poll this week, as teams six through ten all suffered defeat last week and all dropped out of the poll. That allowed Waunakee, Oconomowoc, De Pere, Hudson, and Mukwonago to enter this week. Arrowhead remains the top-ranked Division 1 team.

Notre Dame has beaten Neenah and Kaukauna already this year and is the number one team in Division 2 once again. Homestead slides ahead of Monona Grove for the number two spot. Kaukauna drops to fifth this week. Cedarburg and Slinger dropped out, while Brookfield Central and Menomonee Falls move into the rankings.

Some changes in the top five of Division 3, though Catholic Memorial is still on top with Pewaukee second. Mount Horeb/Barneveld lost to Port Washington and slides from third to sixth, while Whitefish Bay is down four spots to fifth after falling to Union Grove. Reedsburg is up to third, with Port Washington fourth and Plymouth fifth. Wisconsin Lutheran and Baldwin-Woodville drop out, as New Berlin Eisenhower and Winneconne move in to the rankings.

Freedom stays atop the Division 4 Coaches Poll, followed by Little Chute, Aquinas, Stratford, and West Salem in the top five. Racine St. Catherine’s fell to Saint Mary’s Springs and falls to ninth this week, while losses to Osceola and Lodi drop out. Jefferson and Lake Mills are into the poll this week.

Darlington is the biggest favorite in the voting of any top-ranked teams this week, shutting out Illinois 1A state champion Lena-Winslow 35-0. Defending Division 5 champion Mayville dropped a close one to Lake Country Lutheran and slides from second to fourth, one spot behind Lake Country Lutheran. Amherst is up to second. Columbus, Winnebago Lutheran, and Brillion all drop out this week, allowed New Glarus, Durand-Arkansaw, and New Holstein to join the rankings.

Mondovi continues to be ranked number one in D6, followed by Cloverbelt rival Regis. Bonduel moves up to third, followed by Lomira and Edgar in the top five. Belleville and Prairie du Chien are out of the rankings this week, with Colby and Mineral Point moving in to the poll.

While Cochrane-Fountain City stays on top of the D7 poll, there were plenty of other changes in the top five. Black Hawk/Warren fell to Stockton (IL) and goes from second to eighth. Coleman drops from third to fifth. That allows Boyceville to move into second, followed by Lourdes Academy and Pepin/Alma. Shiocton joins the poll this week, as Hilbert drops out.

Gilman continues to dominate and is atop the 8-player rankings again. Owen-Withee and Belmont are next. Assumption is up one spot to fourth, ahead of North Crawford. Four teams at the bottom of the poll drop out, allowing Valley Chrisitian, Hurley, Algoma, and Abundant Life/St. Ambrose to join the rankings this week.
