The team ended Verona’s lengthy conference winning streak and made an early statement in the Big Eight. The Spartans were chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 3. A total of 1,335 votes were cast, as Madison Memorial’s 398 votes edged Mauston boys basketball’s 527 votes.
Madison Memorial capped off a three-games-in-four-days stretch with a 63-56 win over Verona that snapped the Wildcats’ 64-game Big Eight Conference winning streak. Avery Blue had a game-high 16 points, as fellow seniors Neveah Jackson and Charity Wilson chipped in with 13 and 12 points respectively. Memorial beat Madison West 86-20 and McFarland 76-42 earlier in the week.
