Reedsburg’s Will Mikonowicz is a WFCA All-State choice as a running back and defensive back
The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association has announced its All-State and Player of the Year Awards for 2025. The WFCA is producing separate Large School and Small School All-State Teams once again, with 14 players also identified as part of an 8-Player All-State Team. New this year, the WFCA recognized a Lineman of the Year for Large and Small Schools.
The WFCA Coach of the Year honor, which is presented in conjunction with the Green Bay Packers, will be announced after the playoffs, as will Assistant Coach of the Year.
Previously announced WFCA All-Region Teams can be found here.
Notre Dame junior running back Kingston Allen and West De Pere senior quarterback Patrick Greisen were chosen as the WFCA Large School Co-Offensive Players of the Year, as the duo will meet up in the Division 2 state title game on Friday afternoon.
Allen became just the third player to rush for at least 3000 yards, as he has 3,205 rushing yards and a new state record 55 rushing scores heading into the Division 2 state title game. In a Week 1 playoff win against Greenfield he rushed for 477 yards, the fourth-most in a single game in state history. Just a week later he posted the second-best mark ever, rushing for 509 yards in a win over defending champion Slinger.
Greisen has posted two of the most prolific passing seasons in state history the last two years. He was an All-State choice last season when he threw for 3,846 yards and 49 touchdowns. He’s thrown for 3,560 yards and 47 touchdowns this year heading into the state championship game. His 100 career touchdown passes is a new state record.
McCoy Smith, a senior defensive lineman from Waunakee, was named the Large School Defensive Player of the Year. The Badger-Large Defensive Player of the Year, he was a key component on the Warriors’ team that advanced to the state semi-finals in Division 1. This season he recorded 110 tackles, including an astounding 44 tackles for loss with 11.5 sacks. A Wisconsin preferred walk-on commit as a fullback, he also played in the offensive backfield at times with nine rushing touchdowns plus a receiving score.
For the first time, the WFCA presented a Large School Lineman of the Year. This season the recipient is Notre Dame junior Richie Flanigan, who was a First Team All-State selection as an offensive lineman and defensive lineman.
Kenosha St. Joseph senior quarterback Zach Rizzo received Small School Offensive Player of the Year recognition. He’s guided the Lancers to the Division 7 state title, completing more than 72% of his passes this season (124-of-172) with 2,264 yards and 26 touchdowns with just two interceptions, as he averaged better than 18 yards per completion. Rizzo added eight rushing touchdowns as well.
Small School Defensive Player of the Year honors went to Columbus senior defensive lineman Wyatt Graffin. He was also named the WFCA Small School Lineman of the Year. Graffin was a First Team All-State selection as an offensive lineman and defensive lineman this year, also earning First Team All-State recognition on both sides of the ball last year. As a senior for the Capitol Conference champion Cardinals, Graffin recorded 68 tackles, including 35 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks.
Will Mikonowicz of Reedsburg (running back and defensive back), Richie Flanigan of Notre Dame (offensive line and defensive line), William Flottmeyer of Aquinas (offensive line and defensive line), Wyatt Graffin of Columbus (offensive line and defensive line), Owen Steger of Mayville (offensive line and defensive line), Ryan Westrich of Bonduel (tight end and defensive end), and Lamont Hamilton of Racine St. Catherine’s (wide receiver and defensive back) were the only two-way All-State selections.
Repeat selections on the WFCA All-State Teams included River Falls offensive lineman Sam Simpson, West De Pere quarterback Patrick Greisen, Racine Case wide receiver Michael Farr, Arrowhead inside linebacker Brendan Foley, Columbus offensive and defensive lineman Wyatt Graffin, Bonduel tight end Ryan Westrich, Aquinas defensive lineman William Flottmeyer, Racine St. Catherine’s defensive end Adreyan Contreras Ward, and Oakfield offensive lineman Lincoln Laabs.
The WFCA produced a 14-member, 8-Player Football All-State Team this year. McDonell Central senior Dawson Moulton was the 8-Player Football Player of the Year after leading the Macks to the state title over the weekend.
