Sparta and Tomah will meet for the 119th time this weekend, tying for the fourth most-played rivalry game in Wisconsin high school football history

Below we preview some of the top matchups this weekend as the 2025 high school football season gets underway. For the full schedule of games this weekend on the Bound Wisconsin scoreboard, please click here.

Thursday

All game times 7 pm unless otherwise noted.

Lakeland (4-0, 2-0; UR) at Medford (1-3, 1-1; UR) - Medford won the Great Northern Conference last season but it has been a struggle so far in 2025. Lakeland is one of the upstarts in the league, and can make another statement this week after taking down Mosinee in Week 4.

Durand-Arkansaw (4-0, 2-0; D5 #7) at Regis (4-0, 2-0; D6 #2) - A ranked Thursday night matchup in the Cloverbelt Conference, as both teams have looked awfully good so far this season. Regis has not allowed a point in the last three games, and their balanced rushing attack is pounding away at opponents.

Friday

All game times 7 pm unless otherwise noted.

Madison/Southwest

Monona Grove (3-1, 1-1; D2 #10) at Milton (4-0, 2-0; D2 #7) - Milton is 4-0 but will see the strength of its schedule pick up considerably over the last half of the season, beginning this week against Monona Grove. The Silver Eagles bounced back from a narrow overtime loss to Waunakee in Week 3 to hammer DeForest 38-8.

Lodi (3-1, 1-1; UR) at Clinton (4-0, 1-0; D5 #10) - Who would have thought Clinton would be the undefeated team heading into this one? The Cougars are 4-0, though three of those decisions have come by one score. Do they have enough to hold off consistent Capitol Conference contender Lodi?

Milwaukee/Southeast

Arrowhead (4-0, 2-0; D1 #1) at Muskego (3-1, 2-0; D1 #8) - Probably the Game of the Week in Wisconsin for Week 5, as two powerhouses will collide in this one. Arrowhead is unbeaten against a very tough schedule, while Muskego has rebounded nicely from an opening loss to Neenah, as last year’s D1 runners-up are looking to get that Wing-T offense rolling to keep the explosive Arrowhead playmakers off the field as much as possible.

Oak Creek (3-1, 2-0; UR) at Franklin (4-0, 2-0; D1 #2) - This marks the last Southeast Conference meeting between these two neighboring rivals before Franklin makes the move to the Classic Eight next year. The teams play for a trophy featuring a helmet with each side painted in the design of the corresponding school.

Hamilton (3-1, 1-1; D1 #5) at Germantown (3-1, 2-0; UR) - Hamilton opened the Greater Metro Conference schedule with a loss to Brookfield East, who Germantown then hammered last week 36-3. It was a bit of a surprise that the Warhawks did not sneak into the Coaches Poll this week after that result.

Pewaukee (2-2, 0-2; UR) at Waukesha West (2-2, 0-2; UR) - Both teams performed well in the non-conference schedule, but each has fallen to Arrowhead and Muskego in the Classic Eight Conference the last two weeks.

New Berlin West (4-0, 2-0; D3 #8) at Catholic Memorial (3-1, 2-0; D3 #1) - New Berlin West is undefeated but certainly hasn’t gotten into the tough part of its schedule yet, and it will be interesting to see how the Vikings do this week against Division 3 top-ranked Catholic Memorial in this top ten matchup.

Kenosha Bradford (4-0, 2-0; UR) at Racine Horlick (2-2, 1-1; UR) - Bradford holds a slim 48-42-2 advantage in this rivalry that will be contested for 93rd time.

Fox Valley

Kaukauna (1-3, 1-1; UR) at Fond du Lac (2-2, 0-2; UR) - Both teams are in desperate need of a win, as Kaukauna is a shocking 1-3 so far this year, albeit against a challenging schedule. Fond du Lac started the year with a couple really nice non-conference victories, but the conference schedule has proved more challenging for the Cardinals.

Fox Valley Lutheran (4-0, 2-0; D3 #6) at Freedom (3-1, 1-1; UR) - Things got interesting in a hurry in the North Eastern Conference, including defending champion Freedom’s loss to Little Chute last week. Fox Valley Lutheran remains undefeated and has looked like the most impressive NEC to date.

Saint Mary’s Springs (3-1, 2-0; D6 #6) at Winnebago Lutheran (1-3, 1-1; UR) - Winnebago Lutheran is one of the better 1-3 teams in the state, with all three losses coming against teams currently ranked in the top six of their respective divisions. They beat Campbellsport handily last week, while Springs has posted back-to-back shutouts. This is an opportunity at redemption for Saint Mary’s Springs, as the Ledgers beat WLA 37-7 in the final regular season game of 2024 before falling in Level 1 of the playoffs in what turned out to be the last game as coach for Bob Hyland.

Cambria-Friesland (3-1, 2-0; UR) at Lourdes Academy (4-0, 2-0; D7 #8) - Cambria-Friesland’s only loss was against a larger, ranked Cambridge team in non-conference play. The Hilltoppers travel to an undefeated Lourdes Academy team that is coming off a big win over Johnson Creek.

Berlin (3-1, 2-0; UR) at Ripon (2-2, 1-1; UR) - This marks the 100th meeting between these teams dating back to 1915, with Berlin leading the series 52-43-4. Ripon’s Eric Cumber leads the state in rushing with 1,062 yards so far.

North Central

Amherst (4-0, 2-0; D5 #2) at Loyal/Greenwood (4-0, 2-0; D6 #8) - Loyal/Greenwood is one of the best stories so far this year, going 4-0 to begin the season with two victories over playoff teams from 2024. Amherst has rolled through its schedule so far, and will be an even stiffer challenge for the Greyhounds.

Marshfield (1-3, 1-0; UR) at D.C. Everest (2-2, 2-0; UR) - Everest struggled in the non-conference schedule, dropping both games, but has rebounded with back-to-back victories in conference play. They get old rival Marshfield this week, who picked up its first win last week against Eau Claire Memorial.

Eau Claire/Northwest

Reedsburg (3-1, 1-1; D3 #7) at Holmen (4-0, 2-0; D2 #5) - Reedsburg defeated Holmen in the regular season finale last year to help force a five-way tie atop the Mississippi Valley Conference standings. If you like running the football, run to this one, as neither team passes the ball much, Holmen controlling things with a triple option flexbone attack, while Reedsburg operates out of the Wing-T.

La Crosse Central (2-2, 2-0; UR) at La Crosse Logan (4-0, 2-0; D3 #5) - This intracity rivalry will be contested for the 99th time, as the teams play for the Ark of Victory. After being among a five-way tie for the league title last season, both teams are currently undefeated in conference play and looking to stay in the race for the top spot. Christian Rudrud has been outstanding for Central, while the dynamic duo of sophomore quarterback Thomas Check and senior running back Maxim Roberts has been hard to stop for Logan.

River Falls (4-0, 2-0; UR) at New Richmond (3-1, 1-1; D2 #9) - Another big one in the Big Rivers this week, as defending league champion New Richmond is trying to rebound from its first loss of the season against Hudson last week. River Falls has looked very good, and a win would not only keep them atop the league standings but vault them up the Coaches Poll and Playoff Matrix standings.

Cochrane-Fountain City (4-0, 2-0; D7 #5) at Blair-Taylor (3-1, 1-1; UR) - Blair-Taylor suffered its first loss of the year against Pepin/Alma last week in blowout fashion, and get another tough challenge in Week 5 against an undefeated Cochrane-Fountain City squad that has yet to allow a point this season.

Tomah (1-3, 1-0; UR) at Sparta (2-2, 0-2; UR) - This is the 119th meeting between these I-90 rivals dating back to 1894, with Tomah leading the all-time series 68-44-6.
