Practice has begun as of Monday morning and the boys basketball season is officially underway. The first games aren’t until next Tuesday, November 25, but there are a load of players to keep an eye on this season.

This week we’ll roll out pre-season all-state choices, broken down into the 2028, 2027, and 2026 grades. For the senior class (2026), we will list a first team of ten athletes, a second team of five more, and then a number of honorable mentions. For the junior class (2027), we will list a first and second team, and then a number of honorable mentions. For the sophomore class (2028), we will list a first team, and then a number of honorable mentions.

The talent in the state continues to grow, so many good basketball players will be left of these lists.

First Team

(listed alphabetically)

Blake Bradley, Ripon

Bradley is one of the top returning scorers in the class of 2028. having averaged 17.2 points per game a season ago on a struggling Ripon squad. Bradley’s motor and skillset set him apart on the court as a freshman as he always seemed to be around the ball or in the right position. The 6-1 wing can knock shots down at a high rate from deep, having buried 71 a season ago and on the defensive side he has good instincts where he turns tips into steals, and those steals into points.

Reymundo Garibay, Kenosha St. Joseph

Garibay is one of the better ball handlers in the sophomore class, and a true combo guard that knows how to score it and facilitate on the offensive side. As a freshman he averaged 10.5 points and shot 40.1% from three last season. The 5-11 guard is a true three level scorer. He attacks the rim relentlessly and scores around larger defenders around the rim. His ability to make teams hurt from the perimeter and in close make Garibay a tough guard.

Jordan Krause, Seymour

Krause averaged double-digit scoring coming off the bench for a 19-win Thunder team as a freshman. That speaks volumes to the maturity he has as just a sophomore now. He scored 11.1 points per game and buried 53 triples at a 42.4% clip. Krause puts constant pressure on opposing defenses with his scoring mentality, getting to the rim, pulling up in the mid-range and knocking down shots from deep.

Jase Navis, Mauston

Navis is one of the top sophomores in the state. He has great size, length, and a growing skillset that make him deadly with the ball in his hands. At 6-5 he’s very comfortable playing in the mid-range where he can back defenders down and hit turnaround jumpers over defenders. Navis also can get to the rim off the bounce as his ball handling is above average. He’ll add more strength in his frame over the next three years which will only help him improve as a scorer, defender, and rebounder.

Westin Zavatchin, Oostburg

Zavatchin was the third leading scorer as a freshman on a 20-win Oostburg team last season that came two games shy of the state tournament. He averaged 7.3 points, and made 48 triples a season ago. He’s a 6-5 wing that with another year of improvement, will become even more versatile in his ability to effect the game. He’s the younger brother of Jamison who is a senior with the Flying Dutchmen that has scored over 1,500 career points.

Honorable Mentions: Nolan Bork, Adams-Friendship; Teage Cornell, Seymour; Talon Fabian, G-E-T; Regan Granica, Amery; Deklyn Grzadzielewski, Arcadia; Owen Henkel, Freedom; Kaeden King, Messmer; Eli Petropolous, Brookfield Academy; Taylor Williamson, Milwaukee School of Languages;
