Level 1 Surprise

Three of the six-seeds scored victories over the three-seeds in Level 1, though I think Platteville going on the road to take down Lodi is the most surprising. Platteville put up some points this year, but had just one win over a team that finished above .500, a 41-14 victory over D6 Mineral Point. Lodi was 7-2 during the regular season, but the Capitol Conference may not have been as deep as in the past. In the victory, Brody Digman threw for 204 yards and a touchdown while Tyler Sasse ran for 174 yards and four scores.

Best Rematch

Freedom and Wrighstown are consistent programs in the North Eastern Conference, and earlier this year the teams met up with Freedom scoring a 16-6 victory. Freedom built a 16-6 advantage at halftime before holding on for the victory, as sophomore running back Axzil Eggert ran for 163 yards and a touchdown.

#1 seed with toughest match-up

Racine St. Catherine’s is the defending state champion and the top seed in Group D, with the Angels’ only loss coming when 19 players were suspended. Outside of that, the team has dominated, including a 47-0 win over Saint Francis last week. The Angels will take on a Lake Mills team with a couple competitive losses to Lodi and Columbus, but loads of talent led by junior quarterback Tyler Wollin, who thas thrown for 38 touchdowns with just one interception.

Level 2 Most Important Player

Delavan-Darien needs to put up big numbers on offense to win. They are 7-0 this season when scoring at least 24 points, while the Comets are 0-3 when finishing with less than 24 on the scoreboard. The offense runs through junior quarterback Quintin Arizola, who leads the state with 3,006 passing yards, including a 419-yard performance in last week’s win over Waupun. He’ll need to put up big numbers again this week for the Comets to have a chance against top-seeded Columbus.

My Picks
(13-3 last week; 81.25% in D4 overall)

Aquinas over Osceola
Baldwin-Woodville over Platteville
Winneconne over Altoona
Freedom over Wrightstown
Columbus over Delavan-Darien
Mosinee over Evansville
Racine St. Catherine’s over Lake Mills
Little Chute over West Salem
