Bound Wisconsin Basketball Team of the Week - March 9-15

Appleton North BBB

Appleton North has qualified for its first-ever WIAA Boys Basketball State Tournament, as the Lightning got past a pair of tough teams to advance. First it was a 63-45 win over Marshfield, then Appleton North took down Kaukauna 58-53 in a sectional final.

Cambridge BBB

Cambridge is playing in the WIAA Boys Basketball State Tournament for the first time in program history, as the Blue Jays qualified in Division 4. They had a pair of close wins in sectional play, including 64-56 over Darlington on Thursday followed by a 58-56 overtime win against Lomira in the sectional final.

McFarland BBB

McFarland is back in the state tournament for the first time since back-to-back titles in 1973 and 1974. They Spartans defeated Badger-Small rival Mount Horeb 64-54 in a sectional semifinal after splitting during the regular season. The Spartans were a blowout winner in a sectional final, taking down New Berlin West 86-60.

Racine St. Catherine's BBB

In one of the more highly-anticipated sectional semifinal games last Thursday, Racine St. Catherine’s held off crosstown rival Racine Lutheran 65-62. The Angels were 74-58 winners over Oostburg to qualify for state for the first time since winning a 2021 title.

Southwestern BBB

Southwestern has been close to getting to state for several years, and the Wildcats appeared poised for more sectional heartbreak, trailing Assumption late in a sectional final. However, a furious comeback resulted in a 44-43 win and trip to state in Division 5. Southwestern defeated North Crawford 63-52 in the sectional semifinal.

The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA) named Travis the 2015 recipient of the Dave McClain Distinguished Service Award. He currently serves on the WFCA Executive Board and is a member of the Executive Board of the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association. A graduate of Richland Center High School and Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Travis was a three-sport athlete in high school (football, baseball, basketball), inducted to the Richland Center High School Hall of Fame in 2023, and currently resides in Reedsburg.
