Level 1 Surprise
It’s hard to say anything in Division 5 was too big of a surprise, though via seeding University School of Milwaukee was a six-seed that went on the road to defeat third-seeded Milwaukee North/Lifelong Learning. However, North came out of the Blackbourn Division of the Milwaukee City Conference and played just four games on the field this year due to a number of forfeits, going 2-2.
Best Rematch
Somewhat surprisingly, none of these teams played during the 2026 regular season. None played during the playoffs last year, either. Of note, Lake Country Lutheran did face off against University School last year when both teams were members of the Metro Classic Conference. It wasn’t much of a game, as Lake Country won 50-6 in a game that was running clock in the third quarter.
#1 seed with toughest match-up
Amherst has been a juggernaut this year and is definitely a favorite to make it through this week. However, Elk Mound could be a problem for the Falcons. The Mounders have lost three games, but all three were to teams seeded third or higher in the playoffs and by a single score. A few weeks ago, Elk Mound pushed Mondovi in a wild 62-57 loss.
Level 2 Most Important Player
Cohen Kraus is the engine that drives Racine Lutheran. The senior has been outstanding this year for the unbeaten Crusaders, throwing for 1,886 yards and 26 touchdowns with no interceptions. He also leads the team with 757 rushing yards and 22 scores on the ground, and is tops in tackles as well.
My Picks
(16-0 last week; 100% in Division 5 overall)
Racine Lutheran over Kiel
Lake Country Lutheran over University School
New Glarus over Chilton
Saint Croix Falls over Watertown Luther Prep
Darlington over Winnebago Lutheran
Durand-Arkansaw over Brillion
Amherst over Elk Mound
Mayville over Grantsburg
