Level 1 Surprise

There was a lot of chalk in Division 3, with the only lower-seeded team winning being five-seed Catholic Memorial over four-seed Greendale, which many people expected. More on the Crusaders a little later.

Best Rematch

Whitefish Bay and Wisconsin Lutheran found themselves together in a redesigned North Shore Conference this year, and met up in the opening game of the league schedule. Whitefish Bay won it 27-8 behind a strong performance from senior Kaden Kelly, who ran for 113 yards and a score, while Chase Wolter threw a pair of touchdowns.

#1 seed with toughest match-up

Without a doubt, this is top-seeded New Berlin West’s showdown with fifth-seeded Catholic Memorial. The Crusaders have as much talent as anyone in the division, but have struggled to put it all together consistently this year with a move to a larger, tougher Greater Metro Conference. These teams competed in the Parkland Conference previously, and last season it was Catholic Memorial that won 37-7 over the Vikings.

Level 2 Most Important Player

Fox Valley Lutheran quarterback Braden Heiges has accounted for more than 2400 yards of offense this year, which is more than 70% of the team’s total offensive output. Not only has he thrown for 1,407 yards and 16 touchdowns, he’s rushed or over 1000 yards with 19 scores on the ground as well. Oh yeah, he’s also the leading tackler for the Foxes. He’ll need to carry the load in a big way against a Medford team that is physical and will look to control things on the ground.
